The past week has been one of transition for our family as school is out and summer has officially started. Avery is now in "summer camp" at Kids R Kids and so far, so good I think. They have up to 3 field trips per week, including Sea World, baseball games, museums, etc. but what they do with the rest of their time in the gym is a little iffy. They went to the movies yesterday to see Shrek 3 and today is supposed to be a class picnic however the rain will surely spoil that outing. This is the 1st summer that the kids have had to go to daycare over the summer now that Wade is teaching almost year round, having only the month of July off. Being the worried mother that I am, it makes me uneasy and a little sad that they are in daycare all year now but we all do what we have to do and hope for the best. He doesn't seem to mind and enjoys being with his friends. At least he has Brandon to pal around with and to him that is all that matters. Our latest challenge is portable electronics. He has cried every day this week bc mom and dad wouldn't let him take his DSiXL to camp. Trying to set the example by not letting him take it backfired when his BF Brandon showed up yesterday with one of his own. So today we gave in making him the happiest kid ever but I am just waiting for the day he comes home upset bc it has gotten lost, broken or stolen. Ugh, so it starts...
Avery had his 5 yr wellness check up on Monday and he passed his vision and hearing tests and overall is a healthy boy. We discussed his picky eating habits and the only advice we were given was to continue to reintroduce new foods to him. So, here we go. We tried corn last night and got him to put it in his mouth but it came right back out and tears started flowing... what is a parent to do. So we agreed on a grilled cheese sandwich and got him to eat 1/2 of it! His 1st grilled cheese!! All it took was mom promising to stand on her head if he ate his 2 pieces and yes, I did! He's still growing on his curve which is great news, even if it is on the smaller end, 25th percentile. I have no doubts that someday he will shoot up like a weed and surprise all of us.
Ella is doing great. She's becoming quite the talker, even surprised us at the doctors office by saying her 1st sentence- Give me kiss! She understands a lot more than she can speak which is sometimes hard to remember as a parent. She's so smart it truly amazes me. We're anxious for our family reunion in PA this summer to introduce her to the rest of the family. One more month till her 2nd birthday and we're 100% sure it will be Dora themed. She is obsessed with Dora the Explorer, always sings Da, Da, Dora. It never gets old to us. Shortly it will be potty training and maybe the transition to her big girl bed by the end of summer. She's growing up way too fast. We love our babies.
